Mustapha Njie Named Ambassador of USET

Africa-Press – Gambia. The University of Science, Engineering, and Technology (USET) has appointed renowned entrepreneur and philanthropist Mustapha Njie as its first ambassador.

Njie, widely respected for his more than five decades of professional experience and 35 years as a business leader, expressed humility and gratitude for the honor. He described the appointment as both a blessing and a responsibility to give back to his country and community.

Through his foundation, Njie has long championed initiatives in education, housing, and particularly youth empowerment. Accepting the new role, he pledged to leverage his expertise and network to advance USET’s mission while contributing to national development efforts, with a strong focus on tackling youth unemployment.“What I do now is more of advocacy; it is an obligation that I owe to myself, my family, and my country,” Njie said. “Youth unemployment is big. The only way to stop it is by making you, the young ones, active and useful, and that is our responsibility, those of us who are in leadership roles, be it in government or the private sector or civil society; we owe it to you.”

USET Vice Chancellor described Njie’s appointment as a strategic partnership between academia and industry, highlighting his values of innovation, integrity, and community service as perfectly aligned with the university’s vision.

“As we considered individuals who embody the values of our university, which are innovation, integrity, and community development, Mr. Njie stood out without question.”

Ebrima Cham, chairman of the USET Governing Council, echoed that confidence, emphasizing Njie’s proven ability to inspire young people and to promote professionalism. “He has always been able to recognize professionalism, and he motivates the youth. That is the reason we at USET want him to be our first ambassador,” Cham noted.

Established in 2020 as the successor to the Gambia Technical Training Institute (GTTI), USET is the country’s first public university dedicated to applied science, engineering, and technology.
