Africa-Press – Gambia. The National Assembly on Tuesday approved a 90-day extension for its Special Select Committee investigating the sale and disposal of assets identified by the Janneh Commission of Inquiry and forfeited to the state.

The committee, initially given 120 days to complete its work, was due to see its mandate expire tomorrow. However, according to the committee, significant portions of the inquiry remain incomplete.

Tabling the extension motion before lawmakers, Committee Chairman Hon. Abdoulie Ceesay said the body has been diligently executing its mandate through a review of extensive documentation, examination of complex transactions, site visits, and public hearings.

He noted that the inquiry has grown in scope, with new evidence, witnesses, and documentation emerging as the work progressed.

“And whereas, in order to ensure accuracy, thoroughness, and fairness in its findings and recommendations, the Committee requires additional time to complete its mandate of national importance,” Hon. Ceesay told lawmakers.

He moved for the mandate to be extended for 90 days, beginning 18 September 2025, and sought continued authorization for the committee to summon witnesses, request documents, and exercise all powers under the original motion until the extension expires.

The committee is now directed to submit its final report to the Assembly on or before 16 December 2025.

“And directs the committee to submit its final report to this Assembly on or before the 16th day of December 2025,” he said.

The motion was unanimously approved, with members expressing support and appreciation for the committee’s ongoing work.
