Africa-Press – Gambia. Bakary K. Badjie, National Assembly Member (NAM) for Foñi Bintang, has officially launched a new political party, the United Gambian Front (UGF), describing the move as an obligation to liberate The Gambia and restore national dignity.
The launching ceremony, held at the Gambia Teachers’ Union Cooperative Credit Union in Brikama, attracted supporters and observers, reflecting a growing interest among younger politicians in seeking the country’s highest office.
Addressing the gathering, Hon. Badjie said the formation of the UGF marked the beginning of a collective national struggle to rescue the country from stagnation, restore the dignity of citizens, and build a progressive future.
“This is not an optional moment,” he said. “It is a moment of commitment, obligation and liberation. The liberation of this country is not an option; it is an obligation.”
He stressed that no force could prevent The Gambia from progressing or liberating itself, adding that the country had suffered enough and could no longer afford setbacks.
According to the Foñi Bintang lawmaker, the birth of the UGF symbolizes national liberation and development, not only for The Gambia but also for Africa as a whole.
“The development of our nation lies in our own hands,” he said.
Explaining his entry into active party politics, Badjie notes that many citizens believe all politicians are evil, a narrative he said must be changed.
“If we allow only bad people into politics and expect good governance that will never happen,” he said, adding that circumstances had compelled him to join what he described as an “unknown arena.”
Badjie declared his intention to remain in politics and confirmed that the UGF would contest the 2026 presidential election.
He said the party stood firmly with the Gambian people and was founded on the principles of unity, integrity and selfless service.
