National Assembly Committee Concludes Hearings on Jammeh'S Assets

Africa-Press – Gambia. The National Assembly’s Special Select Committee on the sale and disposal of assets belonging to former President Yahya Jammeh concluded its public hearings on Wednesday, marking the end of more than two months of testimony and investigation.

In his closing remarks, Madi MK Ceesay, the committee’s vice chairperson, expressed gratitude to committee members, legal advisers, investigators, administrative staff, and members of the media for their support throughout the process.

“We have spent more than 60 days in these hearings, calling over 32 witnesses and collecting additional statements from others who did not appear publicly,” Mr. Ceesay said. “While the public hearings have concluded, the committee will continue its work behind closed doors to finalize the report, which we aim to present to the plenary in December.”

Attorney General and Minister of Justice Dawda A. Jallow also addressed the committee, praising the hearings as a demonstration of the legislature’s commitment to accountability and transparency in government operations.

“We have come a long way from years of dictatorship, and this process reflects the legislature’s commitment to holding the executive accountable,” Mr. Jallow said. “It is part of our journey to help the nation heal and move forward.”

The committee was established to examine the management, sale, and disposition of assets tied to Mr. Jammeh’s tenure, amid ongoing concerns about corruption and misappropriation during his 22 years in power.
