Africa-Press – Gambia. The National Youth Basketball Development Programme 2026 has commenced a nationwide tour aimed at strengthening grassroots basketball and nurturing young talent across communities.
The initiative targets aspiring players, including female athletes in the under-14 to under-16 categories, as part of efforts to promote inclusivity and broaden participation in the sport.
According to organisers, the programme features a series of court visits designed to identify and develop emerging talent while supporting local academies and coaches.
The tour began in Brikama on March 30, before moving to Sebec Academy on March 31 and Lamin on April 1.
The schedule continues with visits to Hope Basketball Academy on April 6, Nusurat on April 7, and West Basketball on April 8. The programme will conclude its tour at Letitfly Basketball on April 13.
Organisers said the initiative is also focused on promoting discipline, teamwork and improving the overall structure of grassroots basketball development in the country.
They noted that the programme has already attracted strong participation from young athletes and growing interest within communities, describing it as a key step toward building a sustainable future for basketball.
