NDP Warns NPP to Curb Personal Attacks on its Leadership

Africa-Press – Gambia. The National Democratic Party (NDP) has issued a strong warning to the leadership of the National People’s Party (NPP), urging it to take immediate steps to stop what it describes as persistent personal attacks by some of its members against NDP leaders and officials.

In a statement, the NDP cautioned that failure by the ruling party to address the issue could compel it to issue public rebuttals, pursue legal action, and mobilize its supporters through peaceful and lawful means to demand accountability.

The opposition party said it has noted with concern that a prominent NPP figure, identified as Mama Jabbie, has repeatedly launched personal attacks and made “serious public allegations” against NDP leader Kebba Madi Bojang and other party members.“These allegations, made in public forums, have already strained relations between our two parties and risk further inflaming tensions,” the NDP said.

The NDP stressed that it will take all lawful measures to protect its leader, members, and supporters, describing the statement as its final warning to the NPP leadership.

The party urged the ruling NPP to act swiftly and decisively to resolve the issue, stating that while it has no interest in personal vendettas, it “will not tolerate deliberate acts of character assassination.”The NDP outlined several key demands to the NPP, including:

1. Publicly condemn and call to order any NPP member who makes unfounded personal attacks or spreads false allegations against Kebba Madi Bojang and NDP officials.

2. Require an immediate retraction or clarification from the individual(s) responsible for these allegations, accompanied by a formal apology.

3. Institute internal disciplinary measures against any NPP official who continues to use abusive language or make unverified claims that inflame partisan tensions.

4. Address potential defamation or unlawful conduct through lawful and direct communication channels with the NDP, rather than allowing such statements to persist unchallenged in public.

5. Commit to maintaining respectful and constructive dialogue between our parties to safeguard civic space, national unity, and responsible opposition.

“Should these steps not be taken, the NDP is prepared to pursue lawful and measured remedies to protect the reputation of our leader and our party,” the statement warned.

While reaffirming its commitment to national progress and constructive engagement, the NDP underscored that such cooperation must be anchored in “truthful, dignified, and responsible public discourse.”
