Africa-Press – Gambia. Among dignitaries present at the final were the minister of Youth and Sports Bakary Y. Badjie, officials of Darboe Jula Real Estate, Kombo East District Sports Committee, fans, and other dignitaries.

Morro Gitteh gave Nema United the lead in the 18th minute after a defensive blunder from Aston Villa FC to tap home from an empty net. Thirteen minutes later Aston Villa responded with an equalizer through Andrew Badjie’s delicious strike into the bottom corner of the net, thus the first half ended 1 apiece.

Substitute Abdoulie Jatta scored Aston Villa’s second goal from a delightful header in the 73th minutes before substitute Kebba Darboe leveled the scores for Nema United from a scrambled ball in stoppage time.

This dragged the game to penalty shootouts which ended 3-2 in favor of Nema United. As champions, Nema United went home with a giant trophy and a cash prize of D35, 000 while runners-up, Aston Villa received D25, 000.

Nema United head coach, Landing Sarjo expressed delight with handing his side the title they were fighting for, for decades. Head coach of Aston Villa FC, Sulayman Sarjo expressed dissatisfaction with the referee, claiming that they lost the final due to bad referring.

Bakary Y. Badjie, minister of Youth and Sports commended the sports committee for a job well done, saying they saw great display of football during the final.
