Africa-Press – Gambia. A new Athlete Commission was elected on Saturday at the Olympic House in Bakau.

The National Associations elected 5 athletes from 9 contestants with a four year mandate to represent the voice of athletes in the Olympic Movement in The Gambia.

They are set to advocate for the athletes interests both in their sporting pursuits, broader personal and professional development.

At the end of the election, Ms. Yassin Jaal Mboob of Basketball secured 19 votes. Mr. Bakary Jarjue of Wrestling snatched 25 votes after second round, while Mr. Yankuba Jahateh of Triathlon secured 22 votes.

Mr Adama Jammeh of Athletics bagged 16 votes, while Mr. Sainey Jawo of Volleyball grabbed 26 votes

The president of The Gambia Olympic Committee (GNOC) will nominate two more athletes to complete the seven member commission.

The commission will elect their chairman, first vice and 2nd vice presidents, secretary general and treasurer.
