Africa-Press – Gambia. The newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Gambians Abroad, Hon. Sering Modou Njie, convened a breakfast meeting with members of the diplomatic and consular corps in The Gambia as part of efforts to strengthen diplomatic ties and reaffirm shared goals.
Also present at the event were representatives from various international organizations.
In his first official engagement with the diplomatic community since assuming office, Minister Njie emphasized his commitment to regional integration, multilateral cooperation, economic diplomacy, peace and security, and the protection of Gambians living abroad.
“I am honored to assume this important role at a critical time in our nation’s journey. My Ministry stands ready to deepen our partnerships and work closely with your missions to advance mutual goals,” he said.
Lang Yabou, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry, reiterated the government’s openness to robust diplomatic engagement and underscored the significance of sustained international partnerships.
Acknowledging the contributions of the diplomatic and consular corps, Yabou described The Gambia as a beacon of hope in democratic consolidation, the rule of law, human rights, and peacebuilding—particularly in a region marked by pressing challenges that require collective action.
“It is, therefore, our request that, as we navigate the path toward increased national transformation, democratic consolidation, and sustainable development, we remain confident that the continued partnership and solidarity of the international community will be further sustained and expanded to support us realize our collective aspirations for a peaceful, prosperous, and just society,” Yabou said.
He further conveyed the ministry’s commitment to principled, respectful, and effective international cooperation under Minister Njie’s leadership.
Also addressing the gathering, Minister of Justice Dawda A. Jallow provided updates on the ongoing constitutional reform process, particularly developments surrounding the 2024 Draft Constitution.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, Minister of Information, Media and Broadcasting, briefed attendees on key government initiatives and national priorities.
The meeting concluded with an interactive Q&A session, offering an opportunity for open dialogue and reflection.
