Njie Hosts Senegal'S Secretary of State for Abroad

Africa-Press – Gambia. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Gambians Abroad of The Gambia, Hon. Sering Modou Njie, on Thursday received Senegal’s Secretary of State for Senegalese Abroad, Amadou Cherif Diouf, during a courtesy call at his office in Banjul.

Mr. Diouf is in The Gambia on a working visit aimed at strengthening cooperation on issues relating to Senegalese nationals residing abroad and migration management. He was accompanied by the High Commissioner of Senegal to The Gambia, H.E. Mariame Sy.

The meeting was also attended by Permanent Secretary Ambassador Lang Yabou and Director Swaibou Barry of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

According to a statement from the ministry, discussions focused on the longstanding and historic bilateral relations between The Gambia and Senegal, with particular emphasis on migration, consular affairs, and the welfare of Senegalese and Gambian nationals residing in both countries.

Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to enhancing collaboration in addressing migration-related challenges and strengthening institutional cooperation for the benefit of their respective citizens.

As part of his visit, Mr. Diouf is scheduled to travel to Farafenni on 20 February 2026 to meet with members of the Senegalese community residing there. The engagement is expected to provide an opportunity for direct dialogue on issues affecting Senegalese nationals living in The Gambia.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated The Gambia’s commitment to maintaining and deepening its strong bilateral relations with Senegal.
