Africa-Press – Gambia. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Gambians Abroad, Sering Modou Njie, has met with veteran Gambian diplomat and former ambassador, Ebou Ndure, to discuss the establishment of an association for former ambassadors and retired diplomats.
During the meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ndure outlined the proposed objectives of the association, noting that it would serve as a platform for experienced diplomats to guide and mentor the younger generation. The aim, he said, is to help The Gambia cultivate a corps of highly skilled and professional foreign service officers capable of effectively representing the country on the international stage.
“Proper training before deployment is essential for all foreign service officers, as it would significantly enhance The Gambia’s effectiveness in international representation,” Ambassador Ndure stressed.
He also presented the association’s work plan, which has already been shared with other ambassadors, to Minister Njie.
Minister Njie welcomed the proposal, emphasising the importance of collaboration within the diplomatic community to exchange knowledge and expertise. He revealed that the ministry intends to establish a Diplomatic Academy and expressed interest in working closely with the proposed association to provide mentorship for both new and serving diplomats.
“Once established, the association could play a key role in delivering lectures and training sessions to foreign service officers, helping them prepare for postings abroad,” Minister Njie stated.
He reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to supporting the initiative, highlighting its potential to strengthen the professional development of The Gambia’s diplomatic corps.
