NPP Candidate Promises Tractor and Development in Bantanjang

Africa-Press – Gambia. Abdoulie Badjie, the candidate of the ruling National People’s Party in the forthcoming Bantanjang Ward by-election, has promised voters that his first move in office would be to secure a tractor for the community, presenting the pledge as a symbol of rapid development and closer ties to the central government.

Addressing supporters at a political gathering in Foni Kanlang, Mr. Badjie said his candidacy was anchored in access to state resources and the ability to deliver projects without delay.

“If you vote for me and I win, I am the candidate of the government,” he said. “There is nothing the government cannot do. Wherever I go to seek support—whether for a farmland or a mini-stadium, it will be granted.”

Mr. Badjie framed the by-election as an opportunity to ease what he described as persistent hardship in Bantanjang Ward, urging residents to back him if they want tangible improvements in their daily lives.

He also pointed to his past involvement in community activities, citing frequent visits to the women’s garden in the ward as evidence of his engagement. He promised that, if elected, he would prioritize the development of the garden and expand support for women’s livelihoods.

The Bantanjang Ward by-election is scheduled for January 10, 2026, following the death of the sitting councillor earlier this year. The vote is expected to test the ruling party’s influence in Foni, a region that has often been politically competitive.
