Africa-Press – Gambia. The ruling National People’s Party held primaries and candidate selections around the country yesterday. Most of the selections and primaries were low-key party affairs and have been overshadowed by the party’s contentious primary in the West Coast Region, where a rigorous competition took place and the official tally at the end declared it a tie between Ahmed Gitteh and Seedy Ceesay. The former has disputed the results, but party officials have since rescheduled a repeat of the primary between the two leading contenders to take place on Tuesday, March 14, 2023.
These are the party’s candidates from other regions of the country for the upcoming local government elections: press has also been reliably informed that Ahmed Gitteh’s supporters are planning to boycott the rescheduled Tuesday’s primary between their candidate and Seedy Ceesay. We have not been able to reach Ahmed Gitteh to confirm the veracity of this claim.
