Africa-Press – Gambia. The second cohort of the National Youth Service Graduate Program (NYSGP) has been officially sworn in, marking the beginning of their one-year national service across government and private institutions.
The program, designed to build the capacity of young graduates and prepare them for future employment, is part of the government’s broader strategy to address youth unemployment and foster skills development.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony, Minister of Youth and Sports, Bakary Badjie, congratulated the graduates and urged them to serve with dedication, persistence, and determination in their respective placements. He commended their discipline and commitment during the training phase, noting qualities such as punctuality, respect for authority, and availability as key attributes for success.
“Wherever you go, wherever your journey takes you, be it in government or the private sector, rural or urban Gambia, we hope that you will continue the persistence, dedication, and determination to the cause of providing service to the government of the Gambia and the people of the Gambia,” Minister Badjie stated.
The minister reminded the graduates that they are role models for many young Gambians aspiring to similar opportunities. He encouraged them to remain humble, embrace learning, and acquire knowledge and skills that would strengthen their careers and personal growth.
Acknowledging the pressing issue of youth unemployment, Minister Badjie highlighted government efforts to expand opportunities for young people through initiatives like the NYSGP and sustained investment in higher education.
“And in 12 months when we meet, we will be able to have nothing but grateful reflection for the learning that you have done in your institution,” he concluded.
