Africa-Press – Gambia. Hon. Madi Ceesay, The Chairperson of the National Assembly’s Select Committee on Human Rights, has reaffirmed legislators’ support for victims’ families of the 2005 West African Migrants who were brutally murdered by the country’s former regime.
Hon. Ceesay, made this pledge during the victim’s family recent visit to the National Assembly. Assuring the grieving families that legislators remain dedicated to pursuing justice and accountability.
Among the visitors was Cornelia Agyekum, a Ghanaian national and daughter of one of the slain migrants. Speaking with deep emotion, she recounted her family’s enduring pain.
“My father was hardworking and left for Europe to improve our living conditions. My mother is disabled, and we depended on him. I was only ten when he died. Since then, life has been extremely difficult,” she said. “We are here to appeal to the Gambian authorities to help us obtain justice.”
Isaac Mensah, whose father was also among the victims, called for a joint investigation team to exhume the remains for dignified reburials. He further urged the government to expedite reparations, as recommended by the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC).
