Africa-Press – Gambia. The opposition movement PASTEF The Gambia has called on Gambians to reflect on the country’s direction and recommit to system change, strong institutions and peaceful politics as the New Year begins.
In its New Year message, PASTEF extended greetings to Gambians at home and abroad, reiterating its belief that sustainable national development can only be achieved through functional institutions and collective responsibility.
The movement said governance based on personalized power and narrow political interests cannot deliver lasting progress, stressing the need for an institutionalized system grounded in respect for rules, accountability and people-centered leadership.
“As the country enters an election year,” PASTEF appealed for peace, tolerance and mutual respect, urging political actors and their supporters to act responsibly throughout the electoral process.
It emphasized that political competition should be driven by ideas, policies and integrity, rather than division, hostility or violence, adding that national stability must remain a priority.
PASTEF further outlines its vision of a Gambia where politics is treated as public service, institutions are stronger than individuals and the national interest takes precedence over partisan considerations.
The movement concluded by calling on all Gambians to renew their commitment to unity, peace and meaningful system transformation in the New Year.
