Police Arrest 19 Nigerians over Suspected Online Scamming

Africa-Press – Gambia. The Gambia Police Force (GPF) has confirmed arresting 19 Nigerian nationals in Brusubi in connection with suspected online scamming operation.

According to a GPF flash report dated 13 August 2025, Serekunda Police launched an investigation after receiving a tip-off over suspicious activities in the area. Upon arriving at a building along the Brusubi Highway, officers discovered the suspects occupying two floors equipped with laptops and other computer equipment. The report stated that the suspects, mostly Nigerian nationals, were allegedly being trained by two Chinese nationals to promote fake online businesses.

“Cybercrime and CSI units visited the scene. Statements have been recorded, and all suspects remain in custody as investigations continue,” the GPF report said.

Authorities also recovered a large number of items, including 83 iPhones, 27 Android phones, one basic phone, five laptops, six power banks, two smart watches, one tablet, cash totaling D29,800, 36 Nigerian passports, and 52 exercise books.

The suspects, aged between 19 and 35 years, reportedly reside in Sinchu Alagie and Coastal Road.

The GPF reiterated its commitment to combating cybercrime and urged the public to report any suspicious online activities to the nearest police station.
