Police Investigate Fatal Fuel Tanker Fire Incident in Brufut

Africa-Press – Gambia. Gambian police have launched an investigation into a fatal fuel tanker fire incident that occurred on Friday, August 29, at Ghana Town in Brufut. The incident happened while a fuel tanker with registration number BJL 6124 R was offloading fuel

A police statement issued on August 30 confirmed that the tanker belongs to Samasam Company and is owned by Aziz Sam. The fuel was being offloaded into a container operated by a local vendor, Sheikh Tijan Njie (Premix).

The fire resulted in the deaths of two individuals, the driver, Ali Touray, and his apprentice, Abdou Touray, who were both burned beyond recognition. Additionally, two other people, Lamin Jarju and Sulayman Faal, suffered life-threatening injuries and are currently hospitalized at Kanifing General Hospital, the statement disclosed.

The fire also caused significant property damage, destroying the tanker itself, along with an outboard engine, a pumping machine, a generator, a motorbike, a bicycle, and an unspecified amount of cash.

The scene of the incident has been cordoned/secured and reconstructed by a forensic team, with eyewitnesses providing assistance to investigators. The police are working with other stakeholders to determine the exact cause of the fire.
