Police Seize Additional Items from Suspected Online Scammers

Africa-Press – Gambia. The Gambia Police Force has recovered more items from suspected online scammers who were arrested on August 13, 2025.

In a statement released on Thursday, the police confirmed that the suspects—mostly Nigerian nationals—were allegedly being trained by two Chinese nationals to operate fraudulent online businesses. The suspects, aged between 19 and 35, remain in custody as investigations continue.

The latest search led to the confiscation of the following items:

32 Android phones (Motorola and Redmi brands)

112 iPhones

153 desktop computers

2 boxes containing additional desktop computers

1 flat-screen television

1 Lenovo laptop

1 safe

Various computer accessories, exercise books, USB drives, and non-Gambian SIM cards

“Further to the flash report issued on August 13, 2025, regarding suspected online scammers, police investigations have yielded significant developments,” the police statement reads.

According to the report, Chinese embassy officials assisted the police in verifying the identities of two Chinese nationals linked to the case. The suspects, who reside in Kerr Serign, were escorted to their residence, where a comprehensive search was conducted, and the seized items were recovered.

The Gambia Police Force has assured the public that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
