Africa-Press – Gambia. President Adama Barrow has announced that his government has signed a contract with a new private company to help ease the burden of river transportation between Banjul and Barra. He revealed this during his audience with Banjul Muslim elders at State House, in Banjul.
“I have talked about the issue of the ferry and the ferry has consumed what we inaugurated, which was so difficult. We brought new ferries and the work has been going on, but issues of ferry are costly. We see that when you lay down a solution and you keep having the same results and we say now let’s look for another solution: that’s to have a private company that will also work and the government works to make the issue easy,” he said.
“So, now we have signed a contract with a company that is to come and work and it is investing over $50 million for the water route of the ferry and other stuff, and it will employ Gambians to work in its company to make transportation between Banjul and Barra easy. But that’s not our aim, our aim is to build bridge between Banjul and Barra because Banjul is small and we want to expand it,” he added.
