Africa-Press – Gambia. President Adama Barrow has participated in the 17th edition of the MEDays Forum in Tangier, Morocco, where he has been awarded with ‘Grand Prix MEDays 2025’ in recognition of his steadfast commitment to peace, tolerance, and international cooperation.
MEDays Forum is a major platform bringing together Heads of State, government officials, business leaders, and decision-makers to discuss Africa’s pressing challenges and opportunities.
Themed “Fractures and Polarization: Reinventing the Global Equation,” the forum focused on fostering dialogue, cooperation, and sustainable solutions for Africa’s development.
During the event, President Barrow was awarded the Grand Prix MEDays 2025 in recognition of his steadfast commitment to peace, tolerance, and international cooperation. The award cited his efforts in strengthening both national and global stability. President Barrow is the third Head of State from The Gambia, fondly known as the “Smiling Coast of Africa,” to receive such international recognition.
In his remarks, President Barrow emphasized that the size of a country is less important than the impact of its contributions to dialogue, peace, and democracy, which are vital for advancing developing nations. He highlighted the importance of collaboration and collective action in achieving Africa’s development objectives and promoting economic growth.
The Gambian leader also praised Morocco’s leadership in South-South cooperation and reaffirmed The Gambia’s support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Moroccan Sahara. He recalled that The Gambia was the first country to open a Consulate General in Dakhla in 2020, a gesture reflecting the strong bilateral ties and shared values between the two nations.
The MEDays Forum serves as a platform for strategic partnerships, innovation, and dialogue, reinforcing Morocco’s role as a hub for international cooperation. President Barrow’s leadership has been pivotal in demonstrating that focused governance and innovative policies can accelerate national development. His tenure has seen significant infrastructure development, democratic consolidation, and economic growth, while actively promoting regional and global peace.
Earlier this year, President Barrow’s transformative leadership earned him the 2024 African Peace Promoter Prize, further cementing his reputation as a visionary statesman.
President Barrow attended the forum alongside Lady Sarjo Mballow-Barrow, Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon. Seringe Modou Njie, and Minister & Chief of Staff, Office of the President, Hon. Mod K. Ceesay.
