Rumba Youth Football Team Declares Support for Ruling Party

Africa-Press – Gambia. Members of the Rumba Youth Football Team based in Brikama have declared their support for the ruling party ahead of the 2026 presidential election, citing what they described as visible national development and employment opportunities.

Speaking to The Voice newspaper, team captain Bakary Sarr said the current government has made notable progress in recent years and deserves another mandate.

He pointed to ongoing infrastructure projects, including the construction of roads, schools, hospitals, markets, mosques, and Islamic universities, as indicators of steady development.

Sarr said the team is prepared to support the ruling party in the forthcoming election and urged voters to base their choices on competence and integrity rather than personal gain.

Assistant coach Hagie Wally echoed similar sentiments, describing leadership with vision and dignity as essential for national development.

He expressed confidence that a renewed mandate for the government would result in further progress, while advising young voters not to be influenced by money but to consider integrity and development when casting their ballots.

Team member Modou Bah also welcomed the government’s development initiatives and called for continued investment in national growth. He appealed to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Bakary Badjie, to increase support for young footballers and strengthen investment in sports to help nurture local talent.

The players said many youths in the Rumba community support the ruling party and believe unity is crucial for community development.

They maintained that, as young citizens, they have the right to express their political views and participate actively in shaping the country’s future.
