Africa-Press – Gambia. Former Secretary General and Head of Civil Servant, Momodou Sabally has urged the government and the European Union to compensate Gambian deportees following the government’s confirmation of accepting the twenty-five Gambians ready to be deported from Germany and other European countries. He argued that the way these youth are treated is subhuman, appealing to the government not to sign such an agreement that will make the citizens suffer.

Mr. Sally, an economist went on to say that the impact of deportation is having a devastating impact on the deportees who undergo both physical and psychological trauma.

He pointed out that the number of deportees already accepted by this government is much more than 25 and much more will be deported shortly because that is the agreement the Barrow administration has signed with the Europeans.

“Adama Barrow thinks Gambians in the diaspora are his enemies just because some don’t support his political party. Yet he forgets that these are the same people who voted for him in 2016. The government Could have stood up for these youths and engaged the deporting counties to avert it. The German government had agreed with Hon Sidia Jatta to collaborate on this issue but the Barrow government failed to act even after Sidia consulted Barrow himself on the need to engage the German government to resolve this issue in a better way. It is clear that there is an agreement between our government and these countries. Several documents have been leaked online confirming this truth,” he revealed.
