Africa-Press – Gambia. Singer Beyoncé leads the nominations for the 65th Grammy, North American music awards, with nine nominations, followed by ‘rapper’ Kendrick Lamar, with eight, and singers Adele and Brandi Carlile, with seven each, it was announced yesterday.

Adding Beyoncé’s nine nominations in this edition of the Grammys with those she had in previous years, the singer becomes the most nominated artist ever, with 88 nominations, a record she shares with her husband, ‘rapper’ and producer Jay-Z , which this year has five nominations.

Beyoncé is nominated for Album of the Year for “Renaissance” and Record of the Year and Song of the Year for “Break my soul”, with nominations in the Dance/Electronica and R&B (Rhythm and Blues) categories.

Among the most nominated artists at the 2023 Grammys are also Mary J. Blige, DJ Khaled, Future, Terius “The-Dream” Gesteelde-Diamant, Randy Merrill and Harry Styles, with six nominations each.

The long list of 91 Grammy categories covers different musical genres, from jazz to classical music, passing through rap, rock or metal, and from gospel to audiobooks. This year, five new categories were created, including Songwriter of the Year.

Beyoncé competes for the Album of the Year Grammy with Abba (for “Voyage”), Adele (“30”), Bad Bunny (“Un Verano sin ti”), Mary J. Blige (“Good morning gorgeous – Deluxe”), Brandi Carlile (“In these silent days”), Coldplay (Music of the spheres”), Kendrick Lamar (“Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers”), Lizzo (“Special”) and Harry Styles (“Harry’s House”).

In the Record of the Year category, in addition to Beyoncé (with “Break my soul”), ABBA (“Don’t shut me down”), Adele (“Easy on me”), Mary J. Blige ( “Good morning gorgeous”), Brandi Carlile featuring Lucius (“You and me on the rock”), Doja Cat (“Woman”), Steve Lacy (“Bad habit”), Kendrick Lamar (“The heart part 5”), Lizzo (“About damn time”) and Harry Styles (“As it was”).

For the Grammy for Song of the Year, in addition to “Break my soul”, by Beyoncé, are nominated: “abcdefu”, by Gayle, “About damn time”, by Lizzo, “All to well”, by Taylor Swift, “As it was” by Harry Styles, “Bad habit” by Steve Lacy, “Easy on me” by Adele, “God did” by DJ Khaled featuring Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, John Legend and Fridayy, ” The heart part 5”, by Kendrick Lamar, and “Just like that”, by Bonnie Raitt.

The Brazilian singer Anitta is one of the Grammy nominees for Best New Artist, a category that will compete with the Italians Måneskin, who won the Eurovision Song Contest last year, the duo DOMi & JD Beck, Omar Apollo, Samara Joy, Latto, Muni Long, Tobe Nwigwe, Molly Tuttle and the Wet Leg.

The 65th Grammy Awards ceremony is scheduled for February 5th.
