Africa-Press – Gambia. You needn’t be some Antarctic explorer to appreciate the point of “Ernest Shackleton Loves Me,” Skylight Music Theatre’s spirited new production.

Everyone’s who’s lived through the COVID-19 pandemic knows something about optimism in the face of one daunting (and possibly fatal) disruption after another.

Such buoyancy was the calling card of famed polar explorer Shackleton (1874-1922). In this time-crossing musical romance, Shackleton (in the strapping form of Matt Daniels) brings that spirit to pixieish contemporary Kat (Janice Martin), an exhausted single mother struggling to make ends meet as a composer. She’s Laurie Anderson-meets-Cyndi Lauper; he may share some DNA with Dudley Do-Right. They bond through music and their shared courage in taking on enormous challenges.
