Africa-Press – Gambia. In a strategic effort to boost regional tourism, the Gambia Tourism Board (GTBoard) has partnered with ValueJet airline to organize a high-profile Familiarization Tour (FAM-Trip), aimed at promoting Destination Gambia to the West African market.

The tour featured a blend of Nigerian and Gambian social media influencers, business leaders, travel writers, popular Nigerian actors, and senior officials from both ValueJet and GTBoard’s marketing unit.

The visiting influencers were hosted by Bakadaji Hotel, and Kunta Kinteh Beach Complex for a sports bar beach service.

During their visit, the delegation explored some of The Gambia’s top cultural and natural attractions, including the Sacred Katchikally Crocodile Pool, Arch 22, a palm wine tapping farm, the Monkey Park, and ABCA’s Creek Lodge. The group also sampled the local nightlife with an evening at Poco Loco.

Participants used the opportunity to capture and share the rich experiences of The Gambia, affectionately known as the Smiling Coast, of Africa, boosting the country’s visibility through storytelling and content creation.

Mamou Suwaneh, Senior Marketing Communication Officer at GTBoard,, highlighted that the initiative was part of a broader strategy to encourage year-round tourism and position The Gambia as a top destination for regional travellers.

“This FAM-Trip aims to inspire more Nigerians and Gambians to discover the diverse offerings of the destination,” he said.

ValueJet, founded in 2018 with a vision of connecting people and places through modern air travel, officially launched operations in The Gambia on May 15, 2025. The airline now operates direct flights between Nigeria and The Gambia twice weekly, departing Lagos on Thursdays and Sundays, and returning from Banjul on Mondays and Fridays.
