Africa-Press – Gambia. The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) has formally constituted a Professional Standard Board for Teachers, aimed at improving the quality of teaching and learning across The Gambia. The announcement was made via an official statement on the ministry’s Facebook page.

The newly established board is composed of experienced and professional educators tasked with ensuring that every child in The Gambia has access to quality education delivered by motivated and well-supported teachers. One of its key responsibilities will be the establishment of a Teachers’ Service Commission.

Among the appointed members are former Minister of Education Anne Therese Ndong-Jatta, Hon. Sidia Jatta, and eleven other distinguished individuals.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Minister of Basic and Secondary Education Habibatou Drame expressed appreciation to the board members for accepting the assignment. She emphasized the critical role of the board in championing the welfare and professional development of teachers.

“A thriving education system depends on empowered teachers – those who are continuously trained, well-resourced, and motivated to give their very best,” Minister Drame stated.

She further assured the board of the ministry’s full support in fostering a culture of professionalism and excellence within the education sector.

MoBSE emphasized that the board’s creation, in accordance with the Education Act of 2018, underscores the ministry’s commitment to improving teaching standards and recognizing the pivotal role teachers play in shaping the country’s future.
