Africa-Press – Gambia. State Prosecutors at Attorney General Chamber on Wednesday filed an amended bill of indictment before a high court judge in Banjul against five military personnel alleged of treason.

Prior to that development, the deputy director of public prosecution, AM Yusuf applied for the withdrawal of the previous charge sheet which was inherited from the magistrate court to be struck out which was granted by the presiding judge, justice Basirou Mahoney.

The accused that are currently standing trial on the amended bill of indictment are: Lance Corporal Sanna Fadera, P.O Gibril Darboe, Corporal Ebrima Sanno, Corporal Omar Njie and Sub

However, the accused could not take their plea as one of the accused persons; Corporal Omar Njie has no legal representation and pleaded with the court to give him time in order to secure a lawyer.

Corporal Njie’s appeal was granted and subsequently the matter was adjourned to February 2 when the accused persons are expected to take their plea on the new charge sheet.

The other accused persons that are excluded from the new charge sheet and discharged are: Ebrima Baldeh, Bakary Njie, Mbara Touray, Mustapha Jabbi, Omar M. Colley, and Saikou Gassama.

Meanwhile the accused persons were previously arraigned before a Magistrate court in Banjul on charges of conspiracy to commit a felony, and concealment to commit treason against the democratically elected government of Adama Barrow.
