State House Vehicle Controller Denies Money Receipt

Africa-Press – Gambia. The vehicle controller at the State House, Famara Saidyba, has denied receiving any money from personnel of the Mechanical Services Agency (MSA) under the instructions of Sergeant Adama Jange. He made the denial on Tuesday while testifying before the National Assembly Special Select Committee probing the sale and disposal of assets belonging to former President Yahya Jammeh.

During the session, Lead Counsel Lamin Dibba informed Saidyba that a mechanic attached to the State House—who had previously worked at both the Kanifing Garage and the MSA—claimed that on several occasions, MSA personnel were given cash to deliver to him on the orders of Sgt. Jange.

“That has never happened,” Saidyba firmly responded.

Counsel Dibba further asked whether Saidyba could recall being handed D20,000 by a State Guard officer, as alleged by the mechanic.

“I can’t recall that transaction. I have never met this particular State Guard officer, and I don’t remember receiving D20,000 from anyone,” he replied.

He maintained that he had never received money from any individual connected to the MSA or the State Guard.

When asked if he remembered receiving any other sums, including a D100,000 transaction, the witness again said no.

Hon. Jammeh, a member of the committee, questioned him about whether he had ever met a military officer at night for a financial exchange. The witness denied ever being involved in such a meeting.

Saidyba was also asked whether he had received D50,000 from an MSA personnel allegedly sent by Sergeant Jagne.

“It has never happened,” he reiterated.

He was later shown the names of three soldiers, including Sergeant Jagne, and asked whether he recalled meeting them in Banjul to receive cash.

“No, that never happened,” Saidyba maintained.

Throughout his testimony, Saidyba consistently denied all allegations of receiving money from MSA personnel or military officers connected to the former president’s assets.
