Africa-Press – Gambia. Sulayman Camara, the Media and Communications Secretary of the National People’s Party (NPP) and Cybersecurity Adviser to President Adama Barrow, has reaffirmed the unity within the party and expressed strong confidence in its prospects for the 2026 presidential election.

Speaking during an interview on West Coast Radio, Camara dismissed reports of internal divisions, emphasizing that the NPP remains focused and united under the leadership of President Barrow.

“At the moment we have one leader, we have a flag bearer, who everybody knows, His Excellency President Adama Barrow. There is no division within our party, there is a sense of purpose, unity and oneness.” Camara asserted.

He acknowledged that while rumors of internal dissent may circulate, they will not distract the party from its goal. “There is no division within our party, they will hear sayings here and there, but that is not going to get us distracted. Our eye is on the ball, that ball is going to take us to the promised land which is the 2026 presidential election and come 2026, the NPP shall prevail,” he remarked.

Addressing rival political parties, Camara described the United Democratic Party (UDP) as the NPP’s main political opponent. He questioned the UDP’s claims of unity, alleging internal factional disputes.

“They can say that, but we know the factions that are out there fighting each other. I am quite active on social media and I know what is actually happening, these are open secrets, the daggers are out, we know about these things,” he said.

He added, “The UDP are our biggest adversaries in terms of politics.”

While acknowledging the relevance of other political parties, Camara reiterated that the UDP remains the NPP’s principal challenger.

Turning to discussions about President Barrow’s potential third-term bid, Camara affirmed the president’s constitutional eligibility to run again and dismissed critics who suggested otherwise.

“That is democracy, the constitution of this country, the supreme law of our land does not bar the president from standing, sometimes I don’t want to waste my time on that. Our president still has more to offer, look at the transformative agenda he is doing across the country,” he said.

Camara also highlighted President Barrow’s efforts to combat food insecurity through agricultural initiatives aimed at achieving rice and food self-sufficiency.

“President Barrow is waging war on hunger through his rice and food self-sufficiency projects. If we get rice in abundance in this country, you will have a lot of spending revenue in our pockets. Seventy to eighty percent of income goes to food,” Camara explained.

Regarding party succession, Camara assured the public that the NPP is well-equipped with competent leaders for the future.

“NPP has a large pool of talented individuals who can manage this country. When the time comes, President Barrow always keeps on hammering this drum, saying that the reason he is building bureaus across the country is because the NPP is here to stay. That is why next week, Saturday, we are inaugurating our NPP party headquarters at Bundungakunda, on Bundung Highway,” he added.
