The Gambia also recorded a global ranking of 74 out of more than 190 countries in the study.
He highlighted improvements in press freedom, political rights, the rule of law, and anti-corruption efforts as key factors behind the milestone recognition.
Dr. Ceesay emphasized that the achievement should not be politicized. He said President Adama Barrow was delivering on his mandate to transform the country, not only through infrastructure projects such as roads, electricity, water supply, schools and healthcare, but also through governance reforms. Among these is the creation of a special ministry to oversee Public Service, Administrative Reform and Delivery.
“The reforms in the media, legal system, and public finance have ensured transparency and accountability,” Dr. Ceesay said. “We introduced legislation such as the Anti-Corruption Act and the Access to Information Law, and established the Anti-Corruption Commission, all in line with the constitution’s fundamental rights.”
He added that digitalization reforms are crucial for improved revenue mobilization and public finance management, reducing misuse of public funds. Dr. Ceesay extended congratulations to Gambians and the government for this achievement.
