Africa-Press – Gambia. A tense confrontation broke out between National Assembly Member Omar Jammeh and Committee Chairperson Abdoulie Ceesay during a hearing of the Special Select Committee investigating the sale and disposal of assets belonging to former president Yahya Jammeh.

The dispute unfolded as Hon. Jammeh pressed Commissioner Abioseh George of the Janneh Commission to clarify details about a payment arrangement with Augustus Prom & Co., the firm managing assets placed under receivership.

Hon. Jammeh asked whether the receiver was drawing a fixed salary of 1 million dalasis per month or collecting a 10 percent commission on gross revenue.

“Ms. George, can you look at paragraph 15 of your statement? Because here you are very specific on the one million per month,” Jammeh said.

Commissioner George responded that the figure reflected information available at the time. “At the time of the meeting, it was roughly around one million,” she said.

The hearing grew heated when Chairperson Ceesay interjected, noting that the 10 percent commission was based on monthly revenue. Hon. Jammeh, however, insisted he was seeking a direct response from the witness, not from the chair.

Chairperson Ceesay cautioned Jammeh against interrupting. “Please don’t do that. What I said was very correct—I said ten percent after that person provides us clarity,” he replied.

“My intervention is not to stop you from asking the question,” Ceesay added.

With tensions escalating, Jammeh turned off his microphone and addressed the chair. “My mic is off. I will allow you to have that discussion because I definitely know what I am looking for, and I have read between the lines. I’m just stating my point,” Jammeh said.

The confrontation intensified to the point that parliamentary staff intervened, switching off microphones and briefly halting the live broadcast to restore order before the session resumed.
