The Gambia for all (GFA) Party Blames the Absence of a Government Policy against Youth for the Illegal Immigration of Young People

Africa-Press – Gambia. “The sun is setting on a new generation of young Gambians whose dreams are fading as the light fades. Unemployment is eating away at their future, their talents and their potential, stifled by a system biased towards disparity,” said Sheikh Sadibu Jadama, Chairman of the Bakau branch of the Gambia For All (GFA) party.

In an interview, Mr Jadama added that the absence of a government policy for the youth is the cause of the catastrophic syndrome of illegal immigration in the country.

He revealed that the leader of the Gambia For All (GFA) party, Mr Bakary B. Dabo, will today visit the bereaved families of victims of illegal immigration in Bakau to express his condolences.

“As an opposition political party, we find ourselves at a crossroads, with increasingly loud cries of frustration and increasingly pressing tides of migration.”

He challenged the Gambian government to take on the leadership role by launching a boldly ambitious programme to create at least employment and skills centres across the country.

He said it was time to act, adding that the solution lay in a vigorous national undertaking: the creation and implementation of a “Gambian Youth Agenda”.

“The vast disparity in resource sharing in The Gambia whispers a painful truth: The Gambia’s wealth is not benefiting its most precious asset, its youth. Leaders must move from statements to tangible solutions, bridging the gap between promises and reality.”

“I have spoken to countless young people in Sweden, their eyes misty with despair, their hope hanging by a thread. Many choose perilous journeys, crossing deserts and risking their lives, not for adventure but for a glimmer of opportunity abroad.”

“This program transcends borders and unites the country under the banner of empowerment. Imagine the wisdom and experience of established Gambian entrepreneurs, not only as wealthy individuals, but also as mentors and guides. Imagine their networks and knowledge igniting the entrepreneurial flame in countless young minds.”

“It is not just about creating wealth; it is about building a future where every young Gambian is recognised, valued and equipped to contribute. The Gambian government must be accountable to every citizen,” he stressed.

“The obscene disparity in wealth distribution cannot continue. The government’s agenda must be the catalyst for change, ensuring that no Gambian is left behind.”

“Let him be the cornerstone of the Gambian government, capture the hearts and minds of young Gambians and equip them with the mindset, skills and positive attitude to lead the next phase of Gambia’s development.”

According to Mr Jadama, an empowered youth is not just a workforce; “it is a force for progress, reducing unemployment, crime and the despair that fuels illegal immigration.”

He expressed optimism that the West, which is bearing the brunt of this migration, can also be a key partner in working with The Gambia to stem the tide at the source, by fostering opportunity and hope within the country itself.

“But let’s not stop there. Imagine if every Gambian bank or institution identified a young entrepreneur and invested in him or her to create jobs for others. Imagine if auditing and accounting firms offered their expertise and supported these businesses until they thrive,” he suggested.
