Africa-Press – Gambia. The Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration, and Employment (MOTIE) has officially announced that The Gambia will commence the export of groundnuts and cashews to the People’s Republic of China.

This development follows the signing of a bilateral agreement during Minister Babucarr O. Joof’s visit to China in June 2025. Minister Joof attended the Ministerial Meeting of Coordinators on the implementation of follow-up actions of the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and participated in the 4th China–Africa Economic and Trade Expo.

Under the agreement, Gambian groundnut and cashew exports will benefit from duty-free access to the Chinese market through the China Duty Free Quota Free Market Access Preferential Scheme, facilitating enhanced trade opportunities for Gambian producers.

“This will allow Gambian export of these products to the Chinese market duty-free under the China Duty Free Quota Free Market Access Preferential Scheme,” said the ministry.

The ministry urges all economic operators intending to export groundnuts and cashews to China to register promptly with the Gambia Food Safety Authority (FSQA). Registration is essential to ensure compliance with export regulations and to streamline the operationalization of this trade initiative. Interested exporters are advised to contact the FSQA for the necessary registration procedures.
