Africa-Press – Gambia. Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Hon. Abdoulie Jobe, has called for renewed collaboration and a unified approach to strengthen The Gambia’s tourism and cultural sectors, as he opened a high-level intra-sectoral retreat on Tuesday.
Held at Ocean Bay hotel in Bakau, the quarterly retreat brought together senior officials from the Ministry, its satellite institutions, and key projects, in a bid to assess progress, share challenges, and align strategies in line with the Recovery-Focused National Development Plan (YIRIWAA).
In his opening remarks, Minister Jobe emphasized the importance of teamwork, mutual respect, and openness to ideas. “The success of this Ministry cannot be achieved in isolation,” he said. “It will depend on our ability to work together, share ideas, and collaborate towards common objectives.”
He reminded participants of a message previously shared with Ministry staff in March 2025, highlighting that lasting progress can only be achieved through collective effort and shared responsibility. “Let us approach our work with an open mind, always prioritizing collective success over individual achievements,” Jobe said.
The Minister urged staff to focus on professionalism and innovation, particularly as the sector adapts to post-pandemic realities. He challenged all stakeholders to view disagreements as opportunities for growth, and to always keep the Ministry’s mission at the forefront.
The retreat, according to the Ministry, is part of a broader strategy to strengthen coordination across the sector. Key project leaders, including those from the Tourism Diversification and Resilience Project and the Youth Empowerment Project, were also in attendance.
As the retreat continues, participants are expected to engage in experience-sharing sessions and outline practical recommendations to boost sector resilience and sustainability.
The Ministry is expected to hold similar retreats quarterly to monitor and drive progress across the tourism, arts, and culture ecosystem.
