Africa-Press – Gambia. Trust Bank has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Office of the Accountant General to integrate into the government’s payment gateway system, in a move aimed at strengthening and modernizing public revenue collection in The Gambia.
The agreement, signed on Wednesday at the Quadrangle in Banjul, is designed to improve efficiency, transparency, and accountability in the management of government revenues as part of broader efforts to digitize public financial systems.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Accountant General, Agnes Macaulay, described the partnership as a major step toward building a more efficient, technology-driven revenue collection framework.
She said the agreement includes provisions such as the segregation of government funds, daily transfers to the consolidated revenue fund, comprehensive audit trails, and joint oversight through a steering committee.
“The collaboration reflects our joint commitment to principles of efficiency, transparency, and accountability in public financial management,” Ms. Macaulay said. “This initiative will reduce revenue leakages, improve taxpayer confidence, and provide timely, accurate data to support fiscal decision-making.”
She added that the Accountant General’s Department looked forward to a productive partnership with Trust Bank in support of national development.
Trust Bank Managing Director Njilan Senghore said the institution recognizes the importance of robust financial systems in driving economic growth and development.
She said the bank is committed to supporting initiatives that promote efficiency and accelerate digital transformation in the financial sector.
“Through the government’s payment gateway platform, we are working together to create a more efficient, transparent, and accountable system that benefits government, businesses, and citizens alike,” Ms. Senghore said.
She added that timely and secure revenue collection strengthens public confidence, improves service delivery, and supports broader economic objectives.
