Tujereng Zone Snatch Late Equaliser against Gunjur Zone

Africa-Press – Gambia. In a thrilling coastal derby in the West Coast Region Zonal Football Championship semi-final, 10-man Tujereng Zone salvaged a late equaliser in stoppage time, forcing a replay after an own goal from Gunjur Zone.

The match, held at Brikama Boxba Mini Stadium on Friday, drew fans from across the region as the two coastal villages clashed. Tujereng, making their championship debut and yet to concede a goal, were reduced to ten men in the 50th minute after midfielder Ousainou Gibba received a second yellow card.

Fifteen minutes later, Gunjur Zone took the lead when Jereh Camara made a brilliant run behind Tujereng’s defense and tapped the ball home, sending Gunjur supporters into jubilant celebration, confident of securing a straightforward victory.

Despite being a man down, Tujereng—undefeated in their previous four matches—showed remarkable resilience. They continued to press, absorbing pressure and exploiting counter-attacking opportunities. Gunjur created several chances but failed to convert them into goals.

Tujereng’s persistence paid off in the fourth minute of added time when a corner kick confused the Gunjur defense, resulting in defender Ensa Ceesay inadvertently heading the ball into his own net. The dramatic equaliser dampened Gunjur’s celebrations and kept Tujereng’s hopes alive.

With the tie still undecided, the West Coast Region Zonal Organising Committee has announced that the semi-final will be replayed at the same venue.
