Turkish Energy Firm Plans Investment in Gambia Energy Sector

Africa-Press – Gambia. AIC Company ltd, a Turkish renewable energy firm and leading solar energy provider in the country has unveiled plans to invest hugely in the Gambia’s energy sector.

According to Mr. Dennis Elverir, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of AIC Company ltd, the firm is committed to constructing large energy plants that will ensure a reliable electricity supply for The Gambia.

This was disclosed during an exclusive interview granted to on Thursday.

Mr. Elverir, the former CEO of NOCART Engineering RE-Investments, emphasised that their company fully prepared to partake in the nation’s quest to transformative green energy landscape.

He says AIC’s vision as a green energy company is to provide every household with affordable renewable energy, noting that the company is financing a 540 kW project that will go a long way in the realisation of the set vision.

“We are the first company to invest in renewable energy in Gambia and currently we are empowering commercial sectors. The new project we are embarking on is a 5 megawatt solar plant in Tanji that will help improve the flow of energy in that part of the country,” Mr. Elverir disclosed.

He added: “This development will allow us to supply electricity to six thousand five hundred households in The Gambia daily we hope to very soon accelerate some of our project on the pipeline, which will allow us to supply green energy to many more families at affordable prices.”

Discussing the company’s current initiatives, Mr. Elverir noted, “We completed an eighty-kilowatt (80 KW) project in Mandinaring and we are now working on a 540 KW project, with a 240-KW project in the pipeline.”

He indicated that additional projects are forthcoming, including the installation of 200 kW and 5 megawatts, adding that the company have numerous projects in the pipeline, some of which are completed while some are in progress, and others upcoming.

He emphasized that these projects promise job creation, economic development, and improved electricity supply in the nation, noting that AIC is also collaborating with various authorities to demonstrate the project’s potential and elevate Gambia’s profile on a global scale.

Meanwhile, Peter Weisfeld, Head of the AG Engineering Department at AIC, who has resided in The Gambia for over twenty years, also highlighted the advantages of establishing a functional renewable energy sector in the country, particularly due to its abundant sunlight.

He clarified that AIC is not competing with any solar companies in the country; rather, their focus is on higher capacity projects that will attract larger investments.

“We plan to connect solar panels to NAWEC to enhance supply. We are seeking larger projects,” he added.

He revealed that they currently have a 700 KW project underway.

However, he expressed concerns about the numerous challenges they face as they strive to advance renewable energy.

Regarding the benefits of such projects, both Dennis and Peter pointed out that they would generate significant employment opportunities, stimulate economic growth, attract investments, and lower electricity costs.

“We are engaging with locals, providing training and quality equipment,” they stated.

According to Dennis, much of the work is performed locally to empower local businesses.
