UDP Aspirant Lamin Jobe Supports Party'S 2026 Candidate

Africa-Press – Gambia. Lamin Jobe, a United Democratic Party (UDP) flagbearer aspirant, has pledged his full support to whichever candidate the party selects to lead it into the 2026 presidential elections.

Jobe, a resident of Lamin Daranka and a native of Jarra Karantaba, made the remarks on Thursday after appearing before the UDP’s vetting committee. He emphasized that unity within the party is more important than individual ambitions.

“I believe in unity, so if they don’t select me, that does not mean that I should not support the person they selected. I will see that as selfishness. Candidates applied now; it depends on the committee to choose who will lead based on the criteria. Whoever the UDP chooses, we are all going to follow the person and to campaign for the person to see that we have changes in 2026,” Jobe told reporters.

Jobe said his motivation for seeking the UDP flagbearer position is driven by a desire to contribute to national development and improve the welfare of Gambians. “I hope to develop the country, and I hope to help the people and to see that the country moves forward,” he said.

Reflecting on his vetting session, Jobe expressed satisfaction with the process, describing it as “smooth and fair.”

“Everything went well and I am satisfied, and I believe in the process,” He Said.

Outlining his leadership vision, Jobe highlighted transparency, accountability, and citizen participation as his core principles. “I believe in transparency and system change, and I believe that if I am elected, the system will change. I believe in system change, transparency, and democracy,” he said.

He further stressed that good governance can only thrive when leaders regularly engage and consult the people they serve. “First is transparency and public consultation. As a government, I think, whatever you do, you just consult the people that you lead, so we will focus more on consulting people before we make any decision,” he said.

He added, “I believe the government should work this way; they should consult the people that they lead before they impose anything on them, so I will make sure I consult the people that I lead frequently before making any decisions,” he said.

Addressing perceptions of division within the UDP over the flagbearer contest, Jobe dismissed such concerns, saying the process should be viewed as a healthy exercise in internal democracy. “I don’t see this as a division; I don’t see this flag bearer application as a race. This is just a democratic exercise within the party. So the application was open, and we applied. Whoever is selected by the committee, we all rally behind him and go forward,” Jobe concluded.
