Africa-Press – Gambia. The Chairman of the United Democratic Party (UDP) Diaspora, Mboge SaidyKhan, has called on Gambians both at home and abroad to rise above political differences and unite in the fight against corruption, injustice, and bad governance.
Speaking at a UDP fundraising event in Birmingham, United Kingdom, which marked the conclusion of the party leader’s European tour, SaidyKhan emphasized that The Gambia stands at a critical juncture that requires mature and inclusive leadership to heal divisions and deliver meaningful reforms.
“The Gambia stands at a crossroads. We need mature, inclusive leadership to heal divisions, fight corruption, and deliver the reforms our people desperately need. No one embodies this vision more than Ousainu Darboe,” He Said.
Addressing recent resignations from the party, SaidyKhan reaffirmed that the UDP remains united and strong despite the departures, stressing that the party’s doors remain open to all who have left.
“We have witnessed recent departures from our party. We regret their decision, but we respect their choice. We thank them for their contributions and wish them well. Our doors will always remain open to them because UDP is a family,” He Said.
He further urged members not to be swayed by “false promises or short-term gains,” reminding them that the UDP’s strength lies in the sacrifices and contributions of ordinary Gambians.
“Let us not be distracted by false promises or short-term gains. The UDP is built on the sacrifices of ordinary Gambians, farmers, traders, and workers, whose small contributions sustain our great movement. This spirit is our identity,” He Said.
He further states that, the energy and enthusiasm from the grassroots remains overwhelming saying that the UDP is ready to face the 2026 presidential elections with confidence and unity.
“To our loyal members and steadfast supporters, I say this with confidence: the UDP is OK, and our leader Baba is OK. The energy and enthusiasm from the grassroots at home is overwhelming, and on October 25th, Gambians will once again demonstrate that the UDP is the largest and strongest political party in the country,” He Said.
SaidyKhan expressed optimism about the party’s readiness for the 2026 presidential election, noting that the enthusiasm from the grassroots remains strong.
He concluded by urging all Gambians, regardless of political affiliation, to work together for the nation’s progress.
“So tonight, I call not only on UDP members, but on all Gambians, at home and abroad. You may not share our political affiliation, but we all share the same love for The Gambia. Let us unite around that love. Let us unite around the fight against corruption, injustice, and bad governance. Our country is bigger than our differences,” he declared.
The UDP Diaspora Chairman also extended his gratitude to all UDP chapters abroad for organizing a successful fundraising event and for their support throughout the party leader’s European tour.
