Sheriffo Bayo Sonko, Transport Councilor at the Brikama Area Council and a long-standing member of the United Democratic Party (UDP), has been recognized by the UDP Focus 2026 youth group with a Certificate of Award and a cash prize of fifty thousand Dalasis. The honor, the group contends, acknowledges his patriotism, commitment, and contributions to national development.
Expressing his gratitude, Sonko said, “I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Party Leader of the United Democratic Party (UDP) of The Gambia, His Excellency Ousainu A.N.M. Darboe, the Focus 2026 youth group, and all UDP supporters for honoring me with the prestigious Certificate of Award and a cash prize of fifty thousand Dalasis,” he said.
He described the recognition as a major milestone in his political career, reflecting his dedication to The Gambia and to the principles of the UDP.
“This recognition marks a significant milestone in my political journey. It celebrates my contributions and unwavering patriotism to The Gambia, shared with thousands of young people working within a well-structured and visionary political organization like the United Democratic Party,” he said.
Sonko dedicated the award to his late parents, family, and to all young Gambians who, he said, continue to strive for a better nation, especially those currently facing legal challenges for exercising their rights to freedom of assembly and free speech.
“To the Focus 2026 team, you have built the foundation of a movement that must endure, one that inspires more young people to take an active role in politics. Through such collective efforts, we will shape a Gambia led by accountable leaders who truly value democracy and the rule of law,” he said.
He added, “My sincere appreciation goes to everyone who contributed, whether in cash or kind, from the chairpersons to every group member. I am equally grateful to all who sent their congratulatory messages through social media and direct messages,” he said.
UDP Party Leader and Secretary General Ousainu Darboe also commended Sonko for his dedication and invaluable service to the party, encouraging him to continue championing its vision and ideals.
