Africa-Press – Gambia. Kemo Bojang, the former National Secretary General of the United Democratic Party (UDP) Youth Wing and Nominated Youth Councillor at the Kanifing Municipal Council, has announced his resignation from the party, marking what he described as “the most difficult decision” of his political journey.
In his resignation letter dated October 2, 2025, and addressed to Alhagie S. Darboe, the party’s Senior Administrative Secretary, Bojang reflected on his long-standing service to the UDP, which began when he joined at the age of 14. He recounted his rise through the ranks to become the first president of the UDP Students’ Wing and later, National Secretary General of the Youth Wing.
“I take pride in having been part of history, contributing to the birth of the UDP Students’ Wing and becoming its very first president, a platform that inspired and empowered countless young Gambians like myself to step forward and embrace the noble path of service,” Bojang wrote.
He expressed deep gratitude to UDP leader, His Excellency Ousainou Darboe, crediting him with mentorship, guidance, and leadership that shaped his political growth. “His belief in me has been my compass, and his leadership has been my greatest school,” Bojang noted.
Explaining his decision, Bojang cited recent personal challenges and months of reflection, stating that the decision was neither rushed nor driven by bitterness. “I came into the United Democratic Party as a boy, young, energetic, and full of dreams, and today I leave as a man who has been moulded, tested, and nurtured within the walls of this great party,” he said.
Bojang assured his colleagues and allies within the party that his resignation does not erase the bonds built over the years. “Be assured that you are still family, and nothing will change that. I am truly honoured to have met and crossed paths with you all,” he concluded, before invoking blessings on The Gambia and the UDP.
