Africa-Press – Gambia. The UNICEF country Director- The Gambia Country Office acknowledged the amazing leadership of the Department of Strategic Policy and Delivery (DSPD) under the Ministry of Public Service headed by Honorable Baboucarr Bouy.
Ms. Nafisa Binte Shafique delivered this statement at the National Nutrition Agency (NaNA) conference hall along Bertil Harding Highway during the 2025 Mid-Year Review.
Organized by the Department of Strategic Policy and Delivery (DSPD) in partnership with UNICEF, The Gambia office on Wednesday July 30, 2025.
“From the beginning of the country program document developed with the Government of The Gambia, DSPD serve as an instrumental partner to UNICEF,” UNICEF boss explained.
DSPD also established both the steering and technical committees so that they can do better in terms of achieving rights of children which is really amazing.
She said, coming together to have multi sectoral program is to compliment and supplement each other, adding that UNICEF is working with number of ministries and entities.
“We are all stakeholders whether the child was born in a very rich family in urban area or in a poor family in the rural Gambia, they should all enjoy the same right,” said Ms. Nafisa Binte Shafique.
Director of Delivery at DSPD, Mr. Amet Sallah delivered the statement on behalf of the Deputy Chief of Staff, (DCS) who double as the head of the DSPD, Mr. Alieu Loum.
Mr. Loum explained that The Gambia Government and United Nations Systems Agencies have collaborated on various programs and projects under the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) which forms part of the NDP ‘Yiriwa’ (RF-NDP 2024-2028) serving as the foundation of UN Agencies strategies.
According to Mr. Loum, The Gambia Government has priorities children’s agenda as a vital resource for socio-economic development, thus the Government also invested heavily on infrastructure, service delivery and human resource capacity to ensure a well-managed health service delivery.
This investment he added, is supported by both financial and technical support from development partners particularly traditional partners like UNICEF to ensure improved overall wellbeing of children in The Gambia.
The event was attended by the Regional Governos from URR, CRR, NBR and Executive Coordinators from Banjul and Kanifing Municipalities, while Governors from LRR and WCR were represented by their Deputy Governors.
