Africa-Press – Gambia. United Stars FC of Farato have booked their place in the Brikama Sports Committee (BSC) Summer Nawettan proper after edging out Gidda Kabilo with a hard-fought 1-0 win.
The decisive moment came in the 54th minute when Majama Gaye found the back of the net, sealing qualification for United Stars and sparking celebrations among their supporters.
Both teams entered the match with clear intentions of securing qualification, but it was the Farato-based United Stars who delivered a competitive and determined performance to eliminate Gidda Kabilo in the final qualifying round.
Frustration among Gidda Kabilo’s supporters boiled over following the goal, leading to crowd trouble and a temporary stoppage of the match. Stones were reportedly thrown onto the pitch, forcing the game to halt for seven minutes before play resumed under tightened security.
Despite ten additional minutes of stoppage time, Gidda Kabilo were unable to break through United Stars’ defense and saw their hopes of Nawettan qualification dashed.
In another qualifier, Power Station FC secured a spot in the final playoff round. They are set to face Duwa Jabbi Properties of Farato on Monday, with the winner earning the final qualification berth for the Nawettan proper.
