Africa-Press – Gambia. Muhammed Waggie, a Gambian philanthropist based in the United States, over the weekend donated essential medical supplies to four major health facilities within the Greater Banjul Area.
The four beneficiary health facilities were: Sukuta Health Center, Faji Kunda Health Center, Kanifing General Hospital, and Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital in Banjul.
The generous donation was presented on Saturday, 9 August 2025, with representatives from the beneficiary health facilities expressing gratitude for the support.
Speaking on behalf of Muhammed Waggie, businessman Kissima Tambedou highlighted that the donation included cartons of sanitary pads and disposable gowns aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery and supporting patient recovery across the country.
Tambedou also acknowledged Waggie’s on-going contributions to improving health services in The Gambia, noting his previous donations to various hospitals and health centres nationwide, including the four institutions benefiting from this latest gesture.
Alpha Karaga, CEO of Star FM Radio and Television, praised the philanthropist’s efforts and emphasized the importance of such support.
“Government alone cannot provide all the essentials needed at hospitals. Having, people like Muhammed Waggie making these significant donations goes a long way in boosting health delivery services in the country. We call on all well-meaning Gambians to replicate this generous gesture in our collective effort to make health services among the best in the sub-region,” Karaga remarked.
He added that the donated sanitary pads and disposable gowns would greatly improve service delivery at the recipient facilities.
Dr. Mustapha Bittaye, Chief Medical Director of Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital, commended Waggie’s generosity, affirming that the donated items were urgently needed and would be used appropriately to support patients receiving treatment.
Omar F. Jammeh, CEO of Kanifing General Hospital; Lamin Jatta, Midwife at Kanifing General Hospital; and Awa Manneh of Sukuta Health Center all praised the donation as a valuable contribution to their facilities. They noted that it complemented previous donations, which have included food, dairy products, medications, and other health supplies.
