The University of The Gambia (UTG) has organised a two-day retreat in Kanilai for members of its senior management, directors, heads of departments (HoD’s) and other senior academics to foster harmonious working relationships and the sharing of ideas to improve the quality of services rendered to the various stakeholders of the university.

The Ag. Vice Chancellor, Prof Pierre Gomez welcomed the seasoned academics to the retreat, telling them “Even though we might have differences in opinion, which is normal in academia, we are cognisant of the common denominator: which is UTG and The Gambia.”

The retreat, which is being held on the theme “University of The Gambia in Perspective: The Future Plan”, will include presentations by highly experienced resource persons from the university and the National Accreditation and Quality Authority (NAQAA).

The institution, according to him, has “been grappling with many challenges in terms of resources, operations, perceptions, and unhealthy interpersonal rapports. This synergy therefore aims to crystallise some deeply entrenched misconceptions regarding university governance and the overall business of running a university.”

He predicted that the gathering would create new ideas, cement professional engagements, and enhance information sharing. “I look forward to a very thought-provoking and participatory two-day engagement,” he remarked. “Similarly, [I] look forward to a very forward-looking communique that will set out a clear path to a successful 2021/2022 academic session.”
