Africa-Press – Gambia. Vice President Mohammed B.S. Jallow is in Yokohama, Japan, to participate in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), scheduled from 20 to 22 August 2025.
TICAD, launched in 1993, is a flagship initiative of the Government of Japan, co-hosted with the United Nations, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), World Bank, and the African Union Commission (AUC). The platform aims to deepen Japan’s partnership with African nations and advance shared development priorities.
This year’s conference is being held under the theme “Co-creating Innovative Solutions with Africa.” Plenary sessions will focus on key areas of cooperation between Japan and the African Union, including sustainable development, trade and investment promotion, as well as human dignity and security.
The program will also feature the presentation of the Fifth Hideyo Noguchi Africa Prize, awarded in recognition of outstanding achievements in medical research and services in Africa.
Vice President Jallow is accompanied by a delegation comprising cabinet ministers, permanent secretaries, and senior government officials.“TICAD9 provides an opportunity for The Gambia to strengthen partnerships, attract investment, and advance its development agenda in collaboration with Japan and other international partners,” the Office of the Vice President said in a statement.
