VP Jallow Updates National Assembly on State House Rehab

Africa-Press – Gambia. Vice President Muhammed BS Jallow on Wednesday briefed the National Assembly on a series of ongoing rehabilitation projects at State House, as well as the status of land allocations made to President Adama Barrow.

Providing a progress report, Jallow said renovation and construction works are advancing across several State House facilities. According to the Vice President, the Maintenance Office has completed and handed over the Vehicle Control Building, the food store, and a number of security and administrative structures.

He noted that construction of a new multipurpose sports facility has reached 61 percent completion, while associated external works have already been finished and delivered. “The offices occupied by the Economic Commander and his team were completed and handed over,” Jallow told lawmakers. “Guard Post 1 is completed and handed over, and the State Guard Battalion Building is currently 40 percent complete.”

Additional facilities—including the security post and the State House clinic—have also been completed and handed over, he added.

Lawmakers further pressed the Vice President for clarity on the allocation of state land to the president and the corresponding lease details. Jallow responded that records indicate only a single parcel of land has been allocated to President Barrow. However, he told the chamber he did not have information on the location of the property.

“I wish to inform this august assembly that, from records, His Excellency the President has been allocated only one piece of land,” he said.

The briefing formed part of the Assembly’s ongoing oversight duties regarding executive asset management and state infrastructure projects.
