Africa-Press – Gambia. In an effort to encourage fitness and foster a culture of wellness among its workforce, Yonna Group on Sunday organized a “Walk for Health” for its staff members.
The event, which began at Yonna Group’s Brusubi office and concluded at the FIFA Goal Project, drew hundreds of employees, including management. Participants walked several kilometers, united by a shared commitment to promoting healthier lifestyles both within and beyond the workplace.
Speaking to reporters at the event, Yankuba Mambureh, Managing Director of Yonna Islamic Microfinance, said the initiative was enthusiastically endorsed by the company’s leadership, including the CEO and senior management.
“As you can see, we have a few hundred people—at least 200 to 300—who participated in this,” Mr. Mambureh said. “The distance is quite hectic, but we’ve been able to do it because we recognize the importance of teamwork, not only in the office but outside as well. That is paramount for the success of the organization.”
Mr. Mambureh emphasized that promoting physical health among staff helps reduce tardiness, absenteeism, and overall workplace inefficiencies. He noted that the event aligns with the company’s broader goal of enhancing service delivery to its customers.
“A healthy body leads to a healthy mind,” he said. “When you are healthy, you can save the company and yourself lots both financially, psychologically, and emotionally, because what happens is when you are healthy, tardiness is avoided, absenteeism is avoided, which is very, very good, even in our efforts to serve our customers very well.”
The company says it plans to continue similar initiatives to promote well-being across all levels of the organization.
