Yonna Group Invests D450,000 in Youth Sports Sponsorship

Africa-Press – Gambia. Yonna Group has announced a significant investment in youth sports development, committing D450,000 through its subsidiary Yonna Islamic Micro-Finance to sponsor the Serrekunda East Sports Development Organization (SESDO) Nawettan and Knockout Tournament.

The two-year partnership represents a substantial commitment to grassroots sports in the East Side of Serrekunda, reflecting the company’s strategic focus on youth empowerment and community development. The sponsorship will support both the traditional Nawettan tournament and the knockout competition organized by SESDO.

The sponsorship aligns with Yonna Group’s broader mission of investing in Gambian communities and nurturing local talent. With an average staff age of 25, the company positions itself as uniquely positioned to understand and support the aspirations of young Gambians.

“Supporting youth through sports is not just sponsorship for Yonna—it is a continuation of its mission to invest in people, nurture potential, and drive progress for the nation,” the company stated in announcing the partnership.

The partnership specifically targets the East Side community through SESDO, acknowledging the area’s sporting heritage with the motto “The East Side is the Best Side.” The tournament sponsorship is expected to provide enhanced opportunities for local youth to showcase their athletic abilities and develop their talents in a structured, competitive environment.

The D450,000 commitment will be distributed over the two-year partnership period, supporting various aspects of the SESDO tournaments, including infrastructure, equipment, and prize support. The collaboration represents one of the largest private sector investments in community sports development in the region.

Yonna Islamic Micro-Finance, the subsidiary managing the sponsorship, operates as part of Yonna Group’s diversified business portfolio focused on financial services and community development initiatives.

Yonna Group describes itself as “a youthful, energetic force” committed to meaningful development in The Gambia. The company’s network operates under the unified brand promise of “One Network, One Yonna,” emphasizing integrated service delivery across its various business units.

The SESDO tournament sponsorship marks another milestone in Yonna Group’s community engagement strategy, building on the company’s established commitment to supporting Gambian youth and local development initiatives.
